The Staves performed in Belfast @ The Limelight last week and it was the second time I had seen them perform. However, the last time was many years ago and since then they have really taken off after some collaborating with Bon Iver.
I was glad to shoot the gig, as a week before I was due to shoot George Ezra, before being informed they did not want photographers at the gig, even though everyone in the crowd has a smartphone just as a capable as my DSLR, something that completely bemuses me.
Support came from Mikaela Davis; an American artist from New York who performed with a harp and no supporting instruments. On paper it doesn't sound like much, but she had the voice of an angel and made it sound like she had much more than a harp for the backing music.
The Staves seemed to be on form vocally, with this gig preparing them for the festival season. Yeah, they weren't the most active of performers in terms of movement on the stage, but they make up for that with their good looks and vocal harmonies.
Apologies to The Staves if I have mixed your names up. I have Googled you several times and still have no idea who's who.
