I've taken on some new work with a local company; Musgrave Group. They manage various food retailers and wholesale brands in N.I. And one of their Supervalu stores in Downpatrick recently received a store refresh. In other words, it's new and improved! So I had to show off some of the features of the new store, whilst also covering the launch event which included free samples of cupcakes/chicken/burritos, face painting and balloon animals. I was in my element.
And when there are free samples on offer, you're guaranteed some smiley, happy kids!
The client's brief asked to shoot some portraits of the staff, which I had great ideas of shooting 2 x lights with some freshly made food in hand. However, as is the way with promotional events, sometimes things don't go to plan. The staff were very busy and there wasn't any freshly made food on offer, apart from some meat at the counters which I made short work of!
As for the portraits, I was only able to set up one light outside with a softbox attached. The other problem was the weather; grey and miserable. But in this case you play the hand you're dealt, and I quickly jumped outside with a few staff I pried away from their posts. The other portraits were shot totally on the fly with the fluorescent light provided inside (not great) with a window of 10 seconds in the case of the till operator!
